Who We Are
Established in September 2019 and officially inaugurated in May 2020, Hiigsi Women Development Organization (HWDO) is an independent, non-political, and non-religious civil society organization. We work to improve the lives of women and vulnerable communities through sustainable, inclusive, and impactful programs.

To become one of the top 10 Civil Society Organizations dedicated to women’s development in Ethiopia by 2027.
Our Mission
To empower women through education, advocacy, and community initiatives, fostering awareness, equality, and sustainable development in the Somali Region of Ethiopia.

Our Focus Areas
Women Empowerment & Leadership
We strengthen women’s leadership through capacity building, professional networking, peacebuilding training, and participation in decision-making at community and regional levels.
Health & Hygiene
We improve women’s health through maternal care awareness, breast cancer education, hygiene promotion, and access to essential community health services.
Education & Youth Development
We support girls’ education and youth empowerment through awareness campaigns, scholarships, mentorship, and skills development programs.
Advocacy & Human Rights
We lead advocacy campaigns against FGM, child marriage, gender-based violence, and other harmful practices affecting women and girls.
Women’s Economic Empowerment
We enhance women’s economic independence through skills training, entrepreneurship support, and income-generating initiatives.
Environmental Conservation
We promote environmental sustainability through tree planting, community awareness, and climate-resilient development activities.
